The BACAS geophysics team went to the Isle of Man to train local students and amateurs in the use of magnetometry and resistance. Professor Mark Noel lives on the island and has set up a joint project with us. The long term aim is that the island should have a trained-up geophysics team similar to BACAS’ which can undertake projects at any of the myriad sites around the island.
Noel has been surveying keill sites in the far north of the island. Keills are early Christian small monastic cells, of which the island has many, but they have not been explored in any systematic way.
The training took place between 24 and 28 July. Isle of Man TV has posted a video about the event, featuring an interview with Dave Martin of the Keeills Research Project: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yLwJAVeQuGo&feature=youtu.be
