Archaeology of the Bath Abbey Footprint Project : The story so far – Cai Mason, Wessex Archaeology – 8th November 2018

The Bath Abbey Footprint Project is a Heritage Lottery Fund project to repair the Abbey’s collapsing floor, install a new heating system using Bath’s hot springs, and provide new, improved space and facilities for the Abbey.

Wessex Archaeology is undertaking an archaeological investigation at this significant World Heritage site and are already making many discoveries.

Cai Mason, Senior Project Officer, will show us what has been found to date including evidence of Mesolithic, Roman and Saxon activity, an exceptional early 14th-century tiled floor, remains of the earlier Norman Cathedral and the unusual contents of a forgotten Georgian sewer !

All talks are at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution, 16 Queen Square, Bath, BA1 2HN. Thursday 8 November, 7.30pm, with an admission charge of £4 for members (on display of a current BACAS membership card), and £5 for the general public. Pay on the door.
