Bathscape wins Lottery funding

You may have read elsewhere that the Bathscape Round 2 application, with which BACAS has been involved, was successful. The landscape surrounding Bath will benefit from an investment of £1.65 million over 5 years from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the funds will be used  ‘to restore the landscape, enhance access, revitalise its use to improve health, and provide a wide range of training and skills opportunities’.

On the list are a variety of proposed environmental projects, some of which are archaeological sites and others which require an archaeological input.  BACAS discussed a number of sites with the BathNES archaeological officer and these made up our proposed list.  They include sites which have already been identified by BACAS, as part of our LEAP project, and others from other parts of the city.  We plan to co-ordinate with other voluntary groups which will widen awareness of the society as well as provide a great opportunity for BACAS members to get involved with a wide range of projects.  More details can be found via the BathNES website http://www.bathnes.gov.uk/services/environment/green-infrastructure/bathscape.  It is expected that the project will begin in earnest in Spring 2019.
