Looking under church floors

John Oswin, together with BACAS colleagues Sophie Hawke, Fiona Medland and Rick Buettner, has developed a novel technique to use electrical resistance tomography (ERT) to survey beneath stone floors. This has been used to look for vaults and other cavities in two churches: St Mary, Westwood, near Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, and St James, Cameley, near Bath.

The presentation available here was given at NSGG’s Recent Advances in Archaeological Geophysics Conference, 19 February 2021.

It is also available as a rolling presentation on the NSGG YouTube channel, https://youtu.be/P0JqRWAP6kg. Questions and answers from John Oswin begin about 5 minutes and 30 seconds in.
