New report: Four Acre Field 2024

A survey of Four Acre Field was undertaken in January 2024 to provide continuity of understanding across the fields at the northern end of the Lansdown plateau. Magnetometry showed possible signs of round houses and clearly showed other possible remains, including a half-oval feature 20 m in diameter, truncated by the northern boundary. Beyond this boundary, the ground is deeply pitted and very hazardous. This deeply pitted area is described in Anglo-Saxon charters and may well be Roman in origin, so the half-oval feature could be pre-Roman.
