Farleigh Hungerford Castle :  Wednesday 22nd April (Morning)

We will be given a guided tour of Farleigh Hungerford Castle, first built in the 1370s and extended in the 15th century by the distinguished Hungerford family.

After visiting the Castle, you may want to have lunch at the The George Inn at nearby Norton St Philip. At 14.00, there will be an optional walking tour of this historic village with BACAS’s own archaeologist Marek Lewcun.

Lydney Roman Temple :  Sunday 10th May (Morning)

The Roman Temple at Lydney Park, with its guest house and baths, stood within a promontory fort, reoccupied in the Roman period by a community engaged in mining iron. It lies within the Woodland garden and Deer Park and will be visited with the Museum on a guided tour.

Avebury has the largest stone circle in Europe and is one of Britain’s major Neolithic sites. The guided tour will visit the main Henge and stone circle, the inner circles and the Avenue to understand the remains and discuss recent archaeology.

Westbury sub Mendip Excavation : Sunday 28th June (Morning)

Following finds of a lead ingot and coin hoard in the area in 2016, a Romano-British farmhouse/villa was discovered dating from the 3rd to 4th centuries. Westbury Society Archaeology Group continues the excavation each year and we will be visiting the team on site to see their latest discoveries.

Three Somerset Churches :  Thursday 13th August (Evening)

Once again we have a guided visit to a trio of intriguing Somerset churches at Publow, Norton Malreward and Stanton Drew with the traditional ending at the pub, this time the Druid’s Arms.

Cotswold Archaeology Conservation Labs : Thursday 17th September (Morning)

Cotswold Archaeology is a leading supplier of archaeological and heritage services who will host a visit to their Kemble offices to see and discuss their post-excavation processes at first-hand.
